Coreg CR is available in the form of capsules that need to be taken by mouth with food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. However, its generic version Carvedilol Phosphate is available as CR tablets. Swallow the capsule/ tablet whole and do not crush or chew it.
If you are unable to swallow the capsule/ tablet, you may open the capsule/ tablet and sprinkle the beads over cool, smooth applesauce. However, you should not chew the mixture as doing so may cause the drug to be released too quickly, leading to increased side effects. Make sure to swallow the mixture right away. Do not prepare the mixture ahead of time for later use.
Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage based on your medical condition and response to treatment. To reduce the risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start at a low dose and gradually increase it. It is important to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
Take the capsule/ tablet regularly to get the most benefit from it and remember to take it at the same time each day. For high blood pressure, it may take 1 to 2 weeks before you feel the full benefit of this drug. Keep taking the capsule/ tablet even if you feel well, as most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick.
