Atacand contains the active ingredient candesartan cilexetil. It is a prescription medication used to lower high blood pressure and treat certain types of heart failure.
Atacand is used to treat high blood pressure, also called hypertension, in adults and children from 1 to 17 years of age.

Weight gain is not a common side effect of Atacand. However, sudden weight gain may be a sign of fluid retention or worsening heart failure. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice rapid weight gain, swelling in your legs or ankles, or increased shortness of breath.
