Indications

Travatan is a prescription medication used as eye drops to treat certain conditions of the eye such as open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The active ingredient in the medication is travoprost.

Travoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that helps to increase the drainage of fluid from the eye, which in turn helps to lower the pressure inside the eye. It works by reducing the pressure in the eye by increasing the flow of natural fluids out of the eye. It is typically administered as one drop in the affected eye(s) once a day.

Uses and Dosage

To use Travatan eye drops, follow the instructions provided by your doctor or pharmacist. Generally, Travatan eye drops are used once daily in the evening to lower the pressure inside the eye. Here are general steps on how to use eye drops:

  1. Wash your hands with soap and water.
  2. Remove the cap from the bottle.
  3. Tilt your head back and look up at the ceiling.
  4. Use your index finger to gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  5. Hold the dropper tip directly over the pocket created in Step 4.
  6. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pocket, as directed.
  7. After inserting the drops, slowly close your eye for a few seconds.
  8. Try not to blink or rub your eye. Instead, gently press your finger against the corner of your eye (near the nose) for at least one minute to allow the medication to be absorbed.

If you need to use more than one type of eye drop, wait at least 5 minutes before using the second drop. Remember to always discard any unused medication after the prescribed duration of time, typically 4 weeks after opening. If you have any questions or concerns about the administration or duration of Travatan eye drops, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
