The active ingredients in Gaviscon Extra Strength Peppermint are alginic acid and magnesium carbonate. It forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents, which helps prevent acid from coming back up into the esophagus (food pipe) and causing discomfort.

Gaviscon Extra Strength Peppermint comes in the form of a chewable tablet to take by mouth and can be taken with or without water. Chew the tablets thoroughly before swallowing and drink a glass of water after taking the medication. Follow the directions on the label or as directed by your doctor.
