Indications

Diabeta is a medication used to treat high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) for people with type 2 diabetes. It contains the active ingredient glyburide. Glyburide belongs to the class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin and reducing the amount of sugar produced by the liver.

Diabeta can increase the release of insulin and helps the body use insulin more efficiently. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Uses and Dosage

Diabeta is available as a tablet taken orally with breakfast or the first main meal of the day, usually once daily as directed by your doctor. In some cases, patients taking higher doses may need to take the medication twice a day. To minimize the risk of side effects, Swallow the tablet and drink a glass of water right after.

Do not take this oral drug in a higher dosage or more frequently than prescribed, as it could increase the risk of side effects. You should also keep taking Diabeta and do not stop using it abruptly to avoid worsening conditions

The recommended adult starting dose of Diabeta (glyburide) is usually 5 mg daily (2.5 mg for patients over 60 years of age) and increases or decreases by 2.5 mg every 5 to 7 days until blood sugar is controlled. The recommended adult dose of glyburide ranges from 2.5 mg once daily to 10 mg twice daily. The maximum dose of glyburide is 20 mg daily.
