Erythromycin Base comes in the form of Enteric Coated Tablet to take by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually before a meal. The tablet should be swallowed whole as it has a bitter taste if crushed. Erythromycin Base is best absorbed when taken on an empty stomach. If nausea occurs, you may take it with food or milk.
The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment. In children, the dosage is also based on age and weight. For the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take Erythromycin Base at the same time(s) every day.
If you are using Erythromycin Base to treat an infection, continue to take Erythromycin Base until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days.
Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection. Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse. If you are taking Erythromycin Base to prevent certain bacterial infections, take it exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not stop taking the medication without your doctor’s approval.
