Sanctura XR is an oral medication used to treat overactive bladder and its associated symptoms, including urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. Sanctura XR contains the active ingredient trospium chloride and is available in an extended-release capsule form. It works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder, improving the patient’s ability to control urination.

Sanctura XR is a muscarinic antagonist and is indicated for use in patients who have not responded well to other forms of treatment, such as tolterodine tartrate extended-release capsules (Detrol LA).

Sanctura XR is an extended-release capsule that is taken by mouth on an empty stomach at least one hour before a meal, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole and do not crush or chew it.

The recommended dosage of Sanctura XR is one 60 mg capsule daily in the morning, taken with water on an empty stomach, at least one hour before a meal. Patients should also avoid drinking alcohol or taking any product containing alcohol for two hours before and after taking the medication to avoid destroying its long action and to prevent increased side effects.

If a patient cannot swallow the capsule, they may open it and place the beads in a small amount of water or directly onto their tongue. However, they should avoid crushing or chewing the beads to prevent the drug from being released too quickly and increasing side effects. Patients should take Sanctura XR capsules regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it. The dosage is based on their medical condition and response to treatment.
