R and C Shampoo and Conditioner is a medication used to treat lice, which are tiny insects that can infest and irritate the scalp (head lice), the pubic area (crabs), or the body. The medication works by paralyzing and killing lice. It is a combination medication that contains two active ingredients: pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide.
Pyrethrins belong to the group of medications called insecticides. Pyrethrins are naturally occurring insecticides extracted from chrysanthemum plants. It works by paralyzing and killing lice. Piperonyl butoxide increases the amount of time that the product is effective for by preventing the breakdown of pyrethrin.
Use and Dosage
R and C Shampoo and Conditioner is for use on the outside of the body only. Avoid applying this drug to the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If this product gets in these areas, rinse with plenty of water. If irritation occurs, tell your doctor promptly. Do not use any other product in your hair before using this product. It should be applied to dry hair.
Before using, shake the R&C Shampoo/Conditioner bottle well. Follow these steps:
- Use scissors to snip off the tip of the enclosed applicator cap.
- Unscrew the cap on the bottle and replace it with the applicator cap.
- Without applying any other hair products, apply the R&C shampoo/conditioner to dry hair. Thoroughly soak the hair and skin of the infested area and adjacent hairy areas with at least 25 ml of the product. For thicker and longer hair, use more than 25 ml. Apply the shampoo/conditioner close to the scalp, especially around the ears and the nape for head lice, and close to the skin of the infested area for crab lice.
- Leave the undiluted R&C Shampoo/Conditioner on the area for 10 minutes to kill the lice and penetrate the nits.
- After 10 minutes, add small amounts of water and work the shampoo/conditioner into the hair and skin until a lather forms.
- Rinse thoroughly with water, being careful to avoid getting the product in the eyes.
- To remove dead lice and eggs, use the enclosed nit comb following the instructions on the package insert. Apply a second treatment of R&C Shampoo/Conditioner 7-10 days after the first to kill any newly hatched nymphs.
Store the unused product by removing the applicator cap and replacing it with the original cap. Store the product at a temperature between 15°C and 25°C. Rinse the applicator cap and let it air dry.
