Indications

Feldene is a prescription medicine used to relieve pain, swelling, and joint stiffness from arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It contains an active ingredient called piroxicam. Piroxicam is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Feldene works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the body that cause pain and inflammation. It is available in capsule form and should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider.

Uses and Dosage

Feldene (Piroxicam) capsules should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This usually involves taking one capsule per day by mouth, with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters). To reduce the risk of stomach upset, take Feldene with food, milk, or an antacid. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this drug.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual patient treatment goals. Do not increase your dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer time than prescribed. If you are taking Feldene on an as-needed basis, remember that pain medications work best if they are used as the first signs of pain occur. If you wait until the pain has worsened, the medication may not work as well. If you experience any unusual symptoms, you should consult your doctor immediately.
