Indications

Clenpiq (active ingredient: sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide, and anhydrous citric acid) is a prescription medication indicated for:

  • Bowel Cleansing: Clenpiq is used for cleansing of the colon in preparation for a colonoscopy in adults.

Clenpiq belongs to a class of drugs known as stimulant laxatives and osmotic laxatives. Sodium picosulfate acts as a stimulant laxative, promoting bowel movements by stimulating the colonic mucosa. Magnesium oxide and anhydrous citric acid react to form magnesium citrate, an osmotic laxative that increases the water content in the bowels, leading to bowel evacuation.

Uses and Dosage

Clenpiq is available in the form of Powder for Oral Solution to be used orally through the mouth. To ensure that Clenpiq Powder for Oral Solution provides the best possible results, it is important to follow the instructions carefully. Start by mixing the powder with 4 ounces of clear liquids such as water, apple juice, clear broth, white cranberry juice, white grape juice, or ginger ale. Immediately after mixing, drink the mixture.

You will need two doses of this medicine. Drink the additional prescribed amount of clear fluids before and after every dose of this medicine, and until at least two hours before your colonoscopy. Additionally, for the best results, do not eat any solid foods or drink any dairy or anything colored red or purple while taking this medicine.
