What is Ceftin taken for?

Ceftin is used to treat sinus, skin, lung, urinary tract, ear, and throat infections. It may also be used to treat Lyme disease and gonorrhea. It works by fighting bacteria in your body.

Before using Ceftin, inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding; if you are allergic to penicillins; if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine; and if you have any other medical conditions like gastrointestinal disease.

Important Information about Ceftin

Ceftin can make birth control pills less effective and may result in pregnancy. You may need to use another form of birth control during treatment with Ceftin.
It will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or the flu.

Inform your doctor if you

  • have liver disease;
  • have a stomach or intestinal disorder such as colitis;

Most severe: Severe allergic reaction (skin rashes, hives, tightness in throat and chest, shortness of breath, bronchospasm.

Most common: Diarrhea/loose stools; nausea; vomiting; stomach pain.

Other: Headache; dizziness.
