Before taking Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan), tell your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, including any allergies, medical conditions, and medications you are taking.
Pregnancy Warning
Entresto should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while taking this medication, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Use of Entresto during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can harm an unborn baby and may lead to serious complications, including:
- Low amniotic fluid levels (oligohydramnios)
- Low blood pressure in the newborn
- Kidney problems or kidney failure
- Poor skull development
- Reduced urine production
- Fetal or neonatal death
If pregnancy is detected, your healthcare provider will usually recommend stopping the medication and discussing alternative treatment options.
Allergic Reactions
Do not take Entresto if you are allergic to sacubitril, valsartan, or any of the ingredients in the medication.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have ever had an allergic reaction to:
- Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), such as candesartan or losartan
- ACE inhibitors, such as ramipril or quinapril
- Any medication that caused swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Severe rash or hives
Medical Conditions
Before starting Entresto, tell your healthcare provider if you have or have ever had:
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Dehydration
- High potassium levels
- Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
- Hereditary angioedema
These conditions may affect whether Entresto is appropriate for you or may require closer monitoring during treatment.
Dizziness and Low Blood Pressure
Entresto may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or low blood pressure, particularly when starting treatment or after a dose increase.
To help reduce the risk of dizziness:
- Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position.
- Stay well hydrated unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.
- Avoid activities that require alertness until you know how the medication affects you.
Alcohol and cannabis (marijuana) may increase dizziness and lightheadedness while taking Entresto. Limit alcohol consumption and speak with your healthcare provider if you use cannabis.
Monitoring During Treatment
Your healthcare provider may periodically monitor:
- Blood pressure
- Kidney function
- Potassium levels
Regular monitoring helps ensure that Entresto remains safe and effective throughout your treatment.
Contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe dizziness, fainting, swelling of the face or throat, or any other symptoms that concern you.
