Low Blood Pressure
Tribenzor can sometimes lower blood pressure too much.
The risk may be greater if you are dehydrated, have low sodium levels, take high doses of diuretics, or use other medications that lower blood pressure.
Symptoms may include:
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness
- Weakness
- Fainting
Contact your healthcare provider if these symptoms are severe or persistent.
Kidney Problems
Tribenzor can affect kidney function, especially in people who already have kidney disease.
Hydrochlorothiazide may also build up in people with reduced kidney function.
Your healthcare provider may monitor your kidney function during treatment. Tribenzor should generally be avoided in people with severe kidney impairment.
Liver Problems
Tell your healthcare provider if you have liver disease.
Amlodipine is processed by the liver and may stay in the body longer when liver function is significantly reduced.
Hydrochlorothiazide should also be used carefully in people with serious liver disease because changes in fluid or electrolyte levels can sometimes worsen their condition.
Electrolyte Imbalances
The hydrochlorothiazide in Tribenzor can affect electrolyte levels in the blood.
Possible changes include:
- Low potassium
- Low sodium
- Low magnesium
- High calcium
Olmesartan can sometimes increase potassium levels.
Your healthcare provider may order blood tests to monitor your electrolytes during treatment.
Diabetes and Blood Sugar
Hydrochlorothiazide can affect blood sugar control.
If you have diabetes, your healthcare provider may recommend closer blood sugar monitoring while you are taking Tribenzor.
Your diabetes medications may occasionally need adjustment.
Gout and Uric Acid
Hydrochlorothiazide can increase uric acid levels in the blood.
This may trigger or worsen gout in some people.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of gout or high uric acid levels.
High Calcium Levels
Hydrochlorothiazide can reduce the amount of calcium removed in the urine.
This may cause calcium levels in the blood to increase.
Your healthcare provider may monitor your calcium level if needed.
Angioedema and Allergic Reactions
Rarely, Tribenzor may cause angioedema, which is swelling beneath the skin.
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop:
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing
- Difficulty swallowing
- Severe hives or rash
These symptoms may indicate a serious allergic reaction.
Pregnancy
Tribenzor can cause serious harm to a developing baby and should not be used during pregnancy.
Olmesartan affects the renin-angiotensin system and can cause fetal kidney problems, low amniotic fluid, and other serious complications.
If you become pregnant while taking Tribenzor, contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Breastfeeding
Tell your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
Your healthcare provider will consider the potential risks and may recommend a different blood pressure medication during breastfeeding.
Before Surgery
Tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist that you take Tribenzor before having surgery or a procedure.
Blood pressure medications can affect how your blood pressure responds to anesthesia, fluid changes, and other medications used during surgery.
Regular Monitoring
While you are taking Tribenzor, your healthcare provider may monitor your:
- Blood pressure
- Kidney function
- Potassium and other electrolytes
- Blood sugar
- Uric acid
- Calcium levels
Regular monitoring helps make sure Tribenzor remains safe and effective for you.
