Indications

Risperdal M-Tab is a prescription medication used to treat several mental and mood disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder.

It contains risperidone and is an orally disintegrating tablet, which means it can be dissolved on the tongue without water. Risperidone belongs to the group of medications known as antipsychotic agents, which are used to treat mental and emotional disorders. It works by changing the activity of certain natural substances in the brain.

Use and Dosage

Risperdal M (Risperidone) is available in the form of a Dispersible Tablet, which should be taken orally with or without food, as directed by your physician, typically once or twice a day. To use Risperdal M-TAB 3 mg orally disintegrating tablet, first, make sure your hands are dry before opening the blister pack. Peel back the foil on the blister pack to remove the tablet. Place the tablet on your tongue and allow it to dissolve. You do not need to take this tablet with water.

The recommended dosage of Risperdal M-TAB (risperidone) may vary depending on the indication and the individual patient. The recommended daily dose for Risperdal M-TAB orally disintegrating tablets is between 0.5 mg and 8 mg for adults, depending on the condition being treated.

Take Risperidone exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. Cautions

  • Risk of developing tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder that may become permanent) especially in elderly patients or patients taking high doses for a long time.
  • Risperidone can increase the risk for stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
  • Elevated prolactin levels which may cause breast enlargement, milk production, decreased libido, and erectile dysfunction.
  • Increased risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), a rare but potentially fatal condition characterized by muscle rigidity, fever, and mental status changes.
  • Risperidone may cause orthostatic hypotension, a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing which could lead to dizziness or fainting.
  • Risperdal may impair your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery.
  • Risperdal may interact with other medications or substances, including alcohol, causing adverse effects.
  • Excretion may be slow in patients with impaired liver or kidney function.
