Indications

Orajel Extra is an over-the-counter toothache gel intended to provide temporary pain relief from oral issues like toothaches and mouth sores by numbing the affected areas. It contains 20% benzocaine to help provide pain relief from toothaches by numbing the affected area.

Benzocaine works by numbing the skin and mucous membranes in the mouth, providing temporary pain relief for oral discomforts like toothaches, mouth sores, and irritation.

Use and Dosage

Apply Orajel Extra gel directly to the affected area of the mouth as needed for pain relief. Do not swallow. Gel should be used sparingly and only when necessary. Do not use Orajel Extra gel more than 4 times a day unless directed by your doctor. Allow the gel to stay on your painful area for at least 1 minute before spitting out or rinsing your mouth.

Prolonged or excessive use of Orajel Extra gel may increase your risk for serious side effects like methemoglobinemia.

Stop using Orajel Extra gel and see your doctor immediately if your sore throat is severe or lasts for more than 2 days if your mouth symptoms last for more than 7 days, or if you develop a fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea, or vomiting. You may have a serious medical issue that requires different treatment.
