Indications

Lexapro, also known by its generic name escitalopram oxalate, is a medication primarily used to treat depression and anxiety. Lexapro is one of the most prescribed medications for anxiety and depression, with millions of prescriptions written every year.

Escitalopram belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which are commonly prescribed to treat mental health conditions. Lexapro works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Lexapro (escitalopram) provides a viable solution for both adults and adolescents suffering from a major depressive disorder. It has been approved for the acute and maintenance treatment of this condition in those aged 12 to 17 years old. This medication can be taken in tablet form or as an oral solution and is usually taken once daily.

Uses and Dosage

Lexapro medication should be taken orally with or without food, as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning or evening. The dosage is determined by the patient's medical condition, response to treatment, age, and other medications currently being taken. It is important to inform your doctor and pharmacist of all products being taken, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and herbal supplements.
