Dexilant (active ingredient: dexlansoprazole) is a prescription medication indicated for:

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Dexilant is used for the treatment of heartburn associated with symptomatic non-erosive GERD.
Erosive Esophagitis: Dexilant is indicated for the healing of all grades of erosive esophagitis (EE) and for the maintenance of healed EE and relief of heartburn.

Dexilant belongs to the drug class known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which work by reducing the production of stomach acid.

Dexilant is available in delayed-release capsules and should be taken by mouth as directed by a medical doctor, typically once daily with or without food. Do not crush or chew the capsules. Swallow this medication whole. If you have trouble swallowing this medication whole, the capsules can be opened and sprinkled on applesauce. If your symptoms typically occur after a meal, your doctor may advise you to take your dose each day before the same meal for optimal results.

For GERD, the typical dose is 30 mg by mouth once daily for up to 1 month.
