Do not take Corlanor during pregnancy unless specifically directed by your healthcare provider. Ivabradine may harm an unborn baby and has been associated with fetal toxicity and birth defects. Before starting treatment, your healthcare provider may recommend a pregnancy test. If you can become pregnant, use an effective form of birth control while taking Corlanor. If you become pregnant during treatment, contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Corlanor may increase the risk of developing a heart rhythm disorder called atrial fibrillation (A-fib). A-fib can increase the risk of serious complications, including blood clots, stroke, and heart attack. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice symptoms such as a racing heartbeat, irregular heartbeat, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, or unusual fatigue.
One of the effects of Corlanor is slowing the heart rate. While this can help reduce strain on the heart, a heart rate that becomes too slow may lead to serious heart rhythm problems. Your healthcare provider may recommend monitoring your heart rate and blood pressure at home during treatment.
Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Extreme tiredness or weakness
- Fainting
- An unusually slow heartbeat
- Very low blood pressure
Tell your healthcare provider if you have a history of low blood pressure, liver disease, or other heart conditions before starting Corlanor. These conditions may affect whether the medication is appropriate for you or may require closer monitoring during treatment.
Corlanor should also be used with caution in people with severe kidney impairment or those who rely on a pacemaker to control their heart rate. Your healthcare provider will determine whether Corlanor is suitable for your individual situation.
Corlanor can interact with many prescription medications, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Certain interactions may increase the risk of side effects or affect how the medication works. Before starting Corlanor, provide your healthcare provider with a complete list of all medications and supplements you take.
You should also avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice while taking Corlanor unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise. Grapefruit products can affect how ivabradine is processed in the body and may increase the risk of side effects.
