The iris is the colored part of the eye.
Within the iris is a muscle called the sphincter pupillae. This muscle normally contracts in response to acetylcholine and makes the pupil smaller.
Cyclogyl blocks this response.
As a result, the muscle cannot constrict the pupil normally, and the pupil becomes temporarily enlarged. This produces mydriasis.
Relaxes the Ciliary Muscle
Cyclogyl also blocks the effects of acetylcholine on the ciliary muscle.
The ciliary muscle normally changes the shape of the lens to help the eye focus on close objects.
When Cyclogyl temporarily blocks this muscle, the eye cannot accommodate normally. This produces cycloplegia and may cause temporary blurred near vision.

How Quickly Does Cyclogyl Work?

How Long Does Pupil Dilation Last?
