Cantharone Plus Liquid (active ingredients: cantharidin, salicylic acid, and podophyllin) is a prescription medication indicated for the following:

  1. Warts: Cantharone Plus Liquid is used for the treatment of common warts, plantar warts, and other types of warts by inducing localized irritation and destruction of the wart tissue.
  2. Verrucae: It is also indicated for the treatment of verrucae (warts) that are resistant to other forms of treatment.

Cantharone Plus Liquid belongs to a class of drugs known as topical wart treatments. Cantharidin and podophyllin work by causing blistering and irritation in the wart tissue, while salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent to help remove the wart.

Cantharone Plus must only be applied externally. To use Cantharone Plus for wart removal, first remove the thick, dead skin covering the warts using a scalpel. Then, carefully apply one layer of the liquid to the wart and about 1 to 3 mm around the wart. Use a pointed wooden applicator stick to apply this medication. Put a bandage on it for about 5 to 6 hours, then wash it and allow it to dry. You may apply a new bandage if necessary.

The medication works by forming a blister underneath the wart, which causes the wart to be pushed out of the skin. Follow the directions provided by a doctor or healthcare professional when using Cantharone Plus, as it is intended for doctor use only. Additionally, if you experience any itching or discomfort, an oral antihistamine may be taken per the package instructions.

It takes a few hours for the reaction to occur. A blister will form within 24 to 48 hours. If your plantar wart is located on a pressure point, you may have to walk on a painful lesion for 2 to 7 days.
