Indications

Dovonex ointment is a prescription medication used to treat plaque psoriasis. It contains an active ingredient called calcipotriene, which is a synthetic form of vitamin D3. Dovonex Ointment works by reducing the rapid growth of skin cells and reducing inflammation.

When applied to the affected area, Dovonex ointment slows down the production of skin cells and helps to normalize their growth. This reduces the thickness of the plaque that forms in psoriasis and reduces the scaling and redness associated with the condition.

Dovonex ointment should not be used by people with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the ointment.

Use and Dosage

Use Dovonex Ointment topically on the affected skin area only and as directed by your doctor. It should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Generally, Dovonex Ointment is recommended to be applied to the affected area once or twice daily, preferably at the same time each day. Here are the steps to follow when using Dovonex Ointment:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected area(s). Be careful not to get the ointment into your eyes or mouth.
  3. Rub the ointment in gently and completely.
  4. Wash your hands after applying the ointment, unless your hands are the area being treated.

Do not apply it on the face, eyes, nose, mouth, or inside the vagina. If any of these areas get exposed, flush with plenty of water. Do not cover the treated area(s) with a bandage, wrap, or other covering, unless directed to do so by your doctor. Avoid applying excessive amounts of the ointment, as this can increase the risk of side effects.

Do not exceed the recommended frequency or duration of use. Doing so may increase the risk of side effects. Use Dovonex Ointment on a regular basis for maximum benefit. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.

Tell your doctor if you do not observe any improvement in your skin condition or if it gets worse. Improvement may occur after 2 weeks of continuous treatment.
