erectile dysfunction

Caverject

This medicine is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, commonly called impotence. It works by relaxing certain muscles in the penis and widening blood vessels, which increases the blood flow to the penis and helps to cause an erection. When the effect of the drug wears off, blood flow returns to normal and the erection disappears.

Before using Caverject, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine; if you are taking blood thinners; if you have stomach problems; if you have peptic ulcers; if you have any other medical condition like liver or kidney function impairment or heart problems.

What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Caverject?

  • Development of any unusual deformity of the penis while using this medicine is a signal to stop taking the injections and inform your health care provider.
  • Small amounts of bleeding at the injection site can increase the risk of transmission of blood-borne diseases such as HIV.
  • Use caution while driving or operating any machinery as Caverject may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
  • Caverject does not protect against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Before using Caverject inform your doctor:

  • if you have blood problems, bone marrow problems or other conditions that may increase your risk for a prolonged, painful erection
  • if you have a penile implant, deformed penis, or certain other penile problems
  • if you have any other physical reason that you should not have sexual intercourse
  • if you have inflammation or infection of the penis, kidney problems, urinary problems, or a history of prolonged or painful erections
  • if you use other medicine for erectile problems
