Hiprex: Treatment for Urinary Tract Infections.

Hiprex is an antiseptic used to treat urinary tract infections. It works by fighting the bacteria present in the urine and bladder.

Before using Hiprex inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast feeding; if you have liver or kidney problems; or other medical conditions.

How to take Hiprex

Take each dose with a full glass of water. Plenty of fluid should be consumed while taking Hiprex.

Your doctor may recommend you drink additional water and/or certain fruit juices (e.g., cranberry, plum, and prune) and that you increase protein in your diet to ensure adequate hydration and acidity of urine. It may also be recommended to avoid citrus fruits, milk and dairy products, and antacids during treatment with Hiprex as it may decrease it’s effectiveness.

Hiprex is not to be used in

  • Children under six years of age;
  • decreased liver function;
  • severely decreased kidney function;
  • kidney infections;
  • severe dehydration;
  • increased acid levels in the blood (metabolic acidosis);
  • gout.

Hiprex side effects

  • An allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; or hives;
  • lower back or side pain;
  • blood in urine or increasingly painful or difficult urination
  • nausea or upset stomach;
  • decreased appetite;
  • skin rash.
