Cipro

Reading time: 2 minutes

Cipro is a fluoroquinolones antibiotic used for treating infections caused by bacteria. It works by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.

Make sure that you stay well hydrated while taking ciprofloxacin to avoid dehydration and also prevent crystals of the drug from developing in your urine. Keep out of the sun, or wear protective clothing outdoors and use a sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or sun tanning beds or booths. Use caution while driving or operating any machinery as it may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision or lightheadedness.

Avoid taking Cipro with milk or milk products (such as yogurt or calcium-enriched juice). Cipro only works against bacteria; it does not treat viral infections. It may affect blood sugar in diabetes patients.

Do not use if

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Cipro;
  • you have recently received a live, oral typhoid vaccination or you are taking cisapride or tizanidine.
