Table of contents:

Zithromax Suspension is a prescription medicine used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted infections.

Zithromax contains the active ingredient azithromycin in a dry powder form, which is then mixed with water to create an oral suspension. It belongs to the class of macrolide antibiotics. Azithromycin works to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis, which prevents bacterial growth, and leads to their death.

Zithromax cannot work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.

Use and Dosage

Take Zithromax Suspension orally once daily with or without food as directed by your doctor, based on your medical condition and response to treatment. The dosage may also be based on weight for children. Use a special measuring device to carefully measure the dose and shake the suspension well before using. If your child vomits the 1-day treatment dose within 30 minutes, check with your doctor to see if you need to repeat the dose.

To ensure the best effect, take this antibiotic at evenly spaced times each day, and continue taking Zithromax Suspension until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may cause bacteria to continue to grow and result in a return of the infection. Avoid taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium at the same time as azithromycin and wait at least 2 hours before or after taking azithromycin.
