Table of contents:

Visine Allergy is a non-prescription medication used to relieve symptoms of eye allergies, such as redness, itching, and watering. It is an ophthalmic solution containing two active ingredients: Naphazoline hydrochloride (0.025%) and Pheniramine maleate (0.3%).

Naphazoline is a vasoconstrictor. It works by narrowing swollen blood vessels in the eyes to reduce eye redness. Pheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can produce symptoms of itchy or watery eyes. When applied as directed, it temporarily relieves discomfort caused by pollen, ragweed, grass, and animal danger.

Uses and Dosage

To use Allergy Eye drops, apply them in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times a day as needed or as directed by your doctor. Remove contact lenses before applying the eye drops. Wait at least 10 minutes after using this medication before inserting contact lenses. If your eyes are red, ask your doctor whether you should wear your contact lenses.

To use the drops, follow these steps:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the drops.
  2. Tilt your head back and look up.
  3. Use your index finger to pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  4. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Do not touch the dropper to your eye or any other surface.
  5. Squeeze the dropper to release one or two drops into the pocket you created in step 3.
  6. Close your eyes and gently press your finger to the corner of your eye near your nose. This will help prevent the medication from draining out of your eye and into your tear ducts.
  7. Keep your eyes closed and tilt your head down for a few seconds to allow the drops to spread evenly over the surface of your eye.
  8. Release your finger from the corner of your eye and blot any excess liquid from your skin with a tissue.

If you use Allergy Eye drops excessively, you may experience rebound effect when the medication wears off, leading to an increase in eye redness. In such a case, you should inform your doctor and refrain from using this medication for more than 3-4 days at a time. If your condition persists or worsens after 72 hours, or if you suspect a serious medical issue, stop the medication, and seek immediate medical attention.
