Table of contents:

Timoptic-XE is an ophthalmic medication that treats high pressure inside the eye due to glaucoma (open angle-type) or other eye diseases (such as ocular hypertension). It contains the active ingredient timolol maleate and is available in sterile ophthalmic gel forming solution with concentrations of 0.25% and 0.5%.

Timoptic-XE works as a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent, which decreases the amount of fluid in the eye, thus reducing pressure. It works by decreasing the amount of fluid within the eye.

Use and Dosage

Use Timoptic XE Ophthalmic Gel in the affected eye(s) once per day. To ensure efficacy, apply other eye medications at least 10 minutes before the timolol gel solution.

Before applying eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly. To avoid any chance of the dropper tip becoming contaminated, do not let it touch your eye or any other surface. Remove contact lenses prior to using the eye drops. Your doctor can inform you how long to wait after using the gel before placing your contact lenses. With the cap securely fastened, turn the eye drop bottle over and shake it briefly before every use. It is not necessary to shake the container more than one time.

Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and put one drop into your eye. Look downward and gently close your eyes for one to two minutes. Place one finger on the corner of your eye near your nose and apply gentle pressure. Do not blink or rub your eye as this will prevent the medication from draining out. Repeat these steps in your other eye if instructed to do so.

Do not rinse the dropper. After each use, replace the dropper cap. To receive the maximum benefit of Timoptic XE Ophthalmic Gel, use it frequently, at the same time every day, as advised by your doctor. Continue using this medication even if you feel better. Most people with glaucoma or high pressure in the eyes do not experience any symptoms.
