Table of contents:

Nitrolingual Pumpspray is a prescription medication used to prevent or relieve chest pain caused by angina. The spray may also be used just before activities that may cause episodes of angina to prevent the angina from occurring.

Nitrolingual contains nitroglycerin and Nitroglycerin is in a class of medications called vasodilators. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, so the heart does not need to work as hard and therefore does not need as much oxygen.

Use and Dosage

Nitrolingual Pumpspray is administered as a sublingual spray, which means it is sprayed under the tongue for rapid absorption into the bloodstream.

To use Nitrolingual Pumpspray, prime the pump before first use by spraying it into the air away from any flames, yourself, or others. The number of sprays required to prime the pump differs depending on the brand. If you haven't used the medication for six weeks or longer, you must re-prime the pump before use. Do not shake the container.

To administer the medication, sit down and remove the plastic cover. Hold the container with your finger on the grooved button, keeping it upright. Open your mouth and bring the container as close to your mouth as possible. Press the button to spray the medication onto or under your tongue. Follow your doctor's directions and use 1 to 2 sprays. Close your mouth after spraying, and do not inhale or swallow the medication. Refrain from eating, spitting, or rinsing your mouth for 5 to 10 minutes following the administration of Nitrolingual Pumpspray.

If you want to prevent chest pain before physical activity, use Nitrolingual Pumpspray five to ten minutes before the activity.

If you experience chest pain, use Nitrolingual Pumpspray as soon as possible. If your chest pain persists or worsens five minutes after use, call emergency medical help (911) before using another spray. Five minutes after the second spray, if your chest pain persists and the ambulance has not arrived, use a third spray. If your chest pain remains unrelieved after 15 minutes and three doses of nitroglycerin, call emergency medical help (911) if you have not already done so. Do not use more than three sprays during an attack unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
