Table of contents:

Nizoral Cream is a topical antifungal medication used to treat various fungal infections of the skin, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, and seborrheic dermatitis. It contains ketoconazole as its active ingredient. It works by preventing the growth and spread of fungus. It quickly penetrates the skin to kill the root cause of the fungal infection and relieves itching symptoms and reduces redness.

Ketoconazole cream interferes with the production of ergosterol, which is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. By hindering the production of ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes weak and prone to damage, causing the cell to die. It generally takes 2 to 4 weeks of regular use to see improvement in the condition being treated.

Uses and Dosage

Nizoral Cream is applied directly to the affected area of skin and is typically used once or twice per day for several weeks until the infection clears up. Nizoral Cream is only for use on the skin and should not be used in the eyes or mouth.

Using Nizoral Cream, clean and thoroughly dry the affected area of skin. Then, apply enough medication to cover the affected skin and some of the surrounding skin. Use the medication only on the skin and do not apply it in the eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina. If the medication gets in the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.

The dosage and length of treatment depends on the type of infection being treated. Do not apply the medication more often than prescribed, as it will not clear the condition faster, but it may increase side effects. After applying the medication, wash your hands and do not wrap, cover, or bandage the area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Use Nizoral Cream regularly at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit from it. Continue to use the medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after starting ketoconazole. Stopping the medication too early may allow the fungus to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.

If your condition lasts after the full prescribed amount of treatment, or if it gets worse at any time, inform your doctor.
