Zarontin

Filed under: Uncategorized — drwatson @ 11:09 am

Zarontin is used to control absence epilepsy, also known as petit mal epilepsy, in adults and children over 3 years of age. These seizures are characterized by staring, subtle body movement and brief lapses of awareness. They’re usually brief, and typically no confusion or sleepiness occurs when the seizure is over.

Before using Zarontin tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Also let your doctor know if you have liver or kidney disease, and if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine or dietary supplements.

Special warning about Zarontin

This medication can cause kidney and liver damage and blood disorders.

Dosage

Zarontin is taken by mouth. It can be taken with or without food. Dosage depends on your age, medical condition, blood levels of ethosuximide, and response to therapy. The starting dose for patients who are 3-6 years of age should be 1 capsule of 250 mg per day.
