What is Zarontin/ethosuximide used for?

Zarontin is a medication that is used to control absence seizures in the treatment of epilepsy. Zarontin is an anticonvulsant that goes into effect in the brain tissue to stop seizures from occuring.

How should I take Zarontin/ethosuximide?

Follow your doctors dosing orders, or the directions indicated on the label.  The capules should be swallowed whole.  Do not chew on them or break them open.  With Zarontin liquid, use the same measuring spoon every time so that the dose is correct.   Zarontin can be taken with or without food, however, many people find that if they take it with food  they have less of a stomach ache problem than if they don't take it with a meal.  Take only the amount that your doctor prescribed to you.  Don't stop taking Zarontin without talking to your doctor first.  Serious problems could occur if you suddenly stop taking Zarontin.  If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra doses to make up for the missed dose.

How should Zarontin/ethosuximide be stored?

Store Zarontin in a sealed container at room temperature.  Keep this medication away from heat, moisture, and light.  Do not freeze Zarontin.

When should Zarontin/ethosuximide not be taken?

Zarontin should not be taken if you are allergic to ethosuximide or any of the ingredients of the medication.

What precautions should I follow when taking Zarontin/ethosuximide?

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant while taking Zarontin, or if you are breast feeding a baby.  The effects of Zarontin on an infant are unknown and could be dangerous.  Tell your doctor if you have any of the following medi
