Before taking VIAGRA, tell your healthcare provider if you are allergic to sildenafil, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in VIAGRA. If you are unsure whether you have an allergy to any ingredient, your pharmacist can provide a complete list of ingredients.
Do not take VIAGRA if you are taking riociguat (Adempas) or any medication that contains nitrates. Common nitrate medications include nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Taking VIAGRA with these medications can cause a sudden and dangerous drop in blood pressure, which may lead to dizziness, fainting, heart attack, or stroke.
Sildenafil is also available in products used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the benefits and risks of treatment with your healthcare provider before using sildenafil. If you become pregnant while taking sildenafil, contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Do not take more VIAGRA than prescribed. Doses higher than 100 mg have not been shown to improve effectiveness and may increase the risk of side effects.
The most common side effects of VIAGRA include:
- Headache
- Facial flushing
- Upset stomach or indigestion
- Nasal congestion
- Back pain
- Muscle pain
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Skin rash
Although these side effects are usually mild, contact your healthcare provider if they become severe, persistent, or bothersome.
VIAGRA may occasionally affect vision. Some people have reported changes in color vision, increased sensitivity to light, or blurred vision while taking sildenafil. In rare cases, sildenafil has also been associated with hearing problems, including sudden hearing loss. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience sudden vision changes, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, or a significant decrease in hearing.
Always tell your healthcare provider about all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, vitamins, and herbal supplements you take before starting VIAGRA. This can help reduce the risk of drug interactions and side effects.
