Filed under: Uncategorized — Ashlynn @ 9:27 am

Amiloride is used to treat adult patients with high blood pressure or with congestive heart failure when normal blood potassium levels need to be maintained. It is a potassium-sparing diuretic and works by making the kidneys eliminate salt and water from the body while retaining potassium.

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding; if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplements; if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medicine; if you are diabetic or have heart disease; if you have any other medical condition;if you are taking potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics (eg, aldosterone, triamterene); if you are unable to urinate; if you have high blood potassium levels or kidney problems due to diabetes or other severe kidney disease.

Amiloride may cause hyperkalemia if used without a kaliuretic diuretic. Use caution while driving or operating any machinery as Amiloride may cause drowsiness and dizziness. It may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often.

Use with caution if you have

  • kidney disease;

  • or gout or collagen vascular disease (lupus erythematosus).
