Inhibace for HBP and congestive heart failure.

Cilazapril (Inhibace) is an ACE inhibitor used for the treatment of high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. It controls blood pressure and reduces symptoms of congestive heart failure by relaxing blood vessels and by making the heart pump more efficiently.

For treatment of blood pressure, Inhibace may be used alone or in combination with diuretics known as thiazide diuretics (e.g., Hydrochlorothiazide) when one medication has not been found to control blood pressure satisfactorily. For treatment of congestive heart failure, it is used in addition to Digoxin or thiazide diuretics or both.

What is high blood pressure?

When you have high blood pressure, or hypertension, the force of blood against your artery walls is too strong. High blood pressure can damage your arteries, heart, and kidneys, and lead to atherosclerosis and stroke. Hypertension is called a "silent killer'' because it does not cause symptoms unless it is severely high and, without your knowing it, causes major organ damage if not treated.

What is congestive heart failure?

The development of heart failure usually means that your heart's ability to pump blood has weakened, so it can't circulate enough blood to meet your body's needs. Shortness of breath, fatigue and leg swelling may result. When fluid builds up, heart failure is called congestive. Sometimes the heart becomes too stiff to fill properly, and that also can lead to heart failure.

How is Inhibace taken?

Recommended doses range from 0.5 mg to 10 mg once daily, depending on the condition being treated as well as the person's liver and kidney function. Inhibace should be taken at the same time each day.

Who shouldn't take Inhibace?

You should not use this medication if you:

  • have an allergy to Cilazapril or any ingredients in it
  • have a history of angioedema (a serious allergic reaction which causes the area around the throat and tongue to swell) after taking any ACE inhibitors (e.g., Captopril, Enalapril, Fosinopril, Lisinopril, and others)
  • have ascites (swollen abdomen due to liver problems)
  • are pregnant

Does Inhibace have any side effects?

While taking this medication you may or may not experience these side effects:

  • dry cough
  • headache
  • diarrhea
  • loss of taste
  • nausea
  • unusual tiredness

Although rare you should seek medical help immediately if you experience any of the symptoms listed below:

  • sudden difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • fever and chills
  • hoarseness
  • swelling of face, mouth, hands, or feet (signs of angioedema)
  • stomach pain, itching of skin, or yellow eyes or skin

Plavix

Plavix is taken daily to help reduce your risk of having a future heart attack or stroke. It is recommended for people who have suffered from a recent heart attack or recent stroke, or who have been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease, or P.A.D. - poor circulation in the legs that may cause pain during exercise, such as walking.

How does this medication work?

Plavix is proven to help keep platelets from sticking together and forming clots. This helps blood flow more easily, helping to reduce the risk of a future heart attack or stroke.

Clot formation is a natural defense mechanism of the body, which works to protect you from excessive bleeding in the case of an injury. When you cut yourself, particles in your blood called platelets stick together to form a clot. Clot formation can also be triggered by the rupture of plaque (a buildup of cholesterol and other materials) inside the walls of arteries. When platelets clump together on or near the plaque, they can form a clot that may limit or completely stop the flow of blood to various parts of the body. If a clot forms in an artery supplying blood to the heart, heart-related chest pain or a heart attack can occur. If a clot forms in an artery leading to the brain, a stroke can occur.

What is the difference between Plavix and other medicines?

People take cholesterol and blood pressure medicines to help reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. While reducing high blood pressure and cholesterol is important, it's also important to address clots - the direct cause of most heart attacks and strokes.

Blood pressure and cholesterol medicines do not work to reduce clot formation. Plavix, unlike blood pressure and cholesterol medicines, works to help keep platelets from sticking together and forming clots.

Is there any important risk information I should know about?

If you have a stomach ulcer or other condition that causes bleeding, you shouldn't use Plavix. When taking it alone or with some medicines including aspirin, the risk of bleeding may increase. To minimize this risk, talk to your doctor before taking aspirin or other medicines with Plavix.

Does Plavix have any side effects?

The most common side effects were:

  • severe icthing
  • a severe rash characterized by the appearance of purplish spots or patches
  • diarrhea
  • rash

If side effects persist or worsen while taking Plavix contact your doctor immediately.

Duac Acne Gel.

Duac acne gel contains the active combination of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide. Together they are proven to help fight acne more effectively than when either is used alone.

Why do I have acne?

During puberty your body starts producing hormones. These hormones cause glands in your skin to make larger amounts of oil. The biggest culprits in oil production are the male hormones (androgens), which females have as well (but only in smaller amounts). The oil, mixed with dead skin cells, sometimes clogs the pores. Clogged pores are a great place for normal skin bacteria to multiply. This growth produces inflammation of the pore. When the pore bursts, inflammation spreads to other parts of your skin. That's how blackheads become pimples, and possibly hard nodules.

Acne usually develops in your early teens and disappears by your mid 20s. But it can last longer. Whether you are male or female can make a difference. As a woman, when you get older, your menstrual cycle and changing hormones cause more oil to be produced in your pores. Some women get outbreaks around the time of their period. Even as you become an adult, your hormonal patterns can still cause acne. People can also develop adult acne during pregnancy or when they stop taking birth control pills. Some acne cases have been linked to ovarian cysts. The one common factor is a change in hormones. Another factor is the cosmetics you use. Make sure you're using noncomedogenic (look for it on the label) cosmetics. Noncomedogenic means it doesn't close your pores.

For men acne usually disappears in your twenties. But it can persist even as an adult. This is more likely to occur with the type of outbreaks that affect the body as well as the face. Males are more prone to have this pattern of outbreaks than females. It's rare, however, for a man to develop pimples if he didn't have them as a teenager. There are no absolute rules on this.

Male or female it's always best to speak with a dermatologist to better assess what is causing your acne.

What are the benefits of Duac acne gel?

  • You use Duac only once a day - unless your doctor instructs otherwise
  • It is ready to dispense - the pharmacist doesn't have to mix it
  • There is no refrigeration required
  • Duac is water-based, fragrance and alcohol-free
  • It won't interfere with wearing your make-up - apply it before putting on make-up
  • Goes on smoothly

Does Duac have any side effects?

Side effects of Duac may include redness, peeling, burning, and dryness. Clindamycin, an ingredient of Duac, may cause diarrhea. If you experience severe diarrhea, stop using Duac and consult your physician immediately. You should not use Duac if you are allergic to clindamycin, the antibiotic lincomycin, benzoyl peroxide, any of its components or if you have a history of colitis.

Always follow your doctor's instructions closely when using Duac acne gel. If you have not used the entire tube of Duac acne gel in 60 days, throw away the remainder.
